Midzichenda Daystar Rescue Center
Founded by Gladys
This is where the children live: food, a safe roof and a family that looks after them every day.

The children's home in Diani, Kenya.
The children live here and walk to Daystar Nursery School every morning. The sun murals see them off.
In this part of Diani there are no public schools or state hospitals nearby. For the children of the home, studying depends on someone covering their school fees, uniform and supplies.
That is where we come in. The foundation connects the people who want to help with each child, and looks after that bond closely, term after term.
A contribution each term so a child can study at Daystar Nursery School.
Supporters walk alongside one child and follow their progress in a private space.
People who travel to Diani to share their time and skills with the home and the school.
First came the home, then its school, and then the foundation that runs the scholarships. All three work for the same children.

Part of the home
Every morning, the children of the home come here to learn.

It connects sponsors and donors with the children and organises their scholarships at Daystar Nursery School.
Boost Watoto Wema is the only body in charge of sponsorships, scholarships and volunteering. The home receives no help from the government or any other organisation.
A space reserved for those supporting their education.
The home is full of vibrant children and young people who learn, play, and build their future together. To safeguard their privacy and wellbeing, individual profiles and personal histories are not published publicly online.
Four clear, transparent paths to walk alongside the children of the home and the team.
Student scholarships allow you to directly support the education of children at Daystar Nursery School. There are three scholarships, from 3,000 KES every three months: the simplest covers enrolment and pedagogical support, and the others add a uniform, school supplies and food. People supporting a scholarship have access to a private space where they can get to know the child they support; when there is news, photos or letters, the team shares them there.
Volunteering is a way to contribute in person at the home by sharing your time, knowledge or skills with the community. You can stay at the home itself or at Malawi House. Opportunities, availability and conditions are discussed directly with the team.
If you are on the South Coast, you can visit the home outside school hours: in the afternoon (after 15:30) or at weekends. Message us ahead on WhatsApp to arrange your visit.

No commissions, no fees, nothing extra: all the money goes to the home and the school.
Edurne, founder of the Boost Watoto Wema foundation, travels to Diani three or four times a year and is in direct contact with the school's head teacher and with Gladys.
“No child in the home should miss out on school.”
Boost Watoto Wema is the foundation that stands by the children of Midzichenda Daystar Rescue Center, the children's home Gladys Kahindi opened in 2013, and of its school, Daystar Nursery School. Through scholarships, sponsorships and volunteering, we help every child keep going to class.
