Four ways to get involved
There are different ways to support the project: you can pay for a child's schooling through a scholarship, give towards the everyday needs of the home and the school, come and volunteer in person, or visit the home.
Every one of these ways to help (scholarships, donations, volunteering and visits) is organised by the Boost Watoto Wema foundation.
100% of your contribution reaches the home and the school
No commissions, no fees, nothing extra: all the money goes to the home and the school.
Edurne, founder of the Boost Watoto Wema foundation, travels to Diani three or four times a year and is in direct contact with the school's head teacher and with Gladys.
1. Student Scholarships
Student scholarships allow you to directly support the education of children at Daystar Nursery School.
There are three scholarships, from 3,000 KES every three months, depending on what they cover: school; school with a uniform and supplies; or all of that plus food.
People supporting a scholarship have access to a private space where they can get to know the child they support. When there is news, photos or letters, the team shares them there.
2. Donations
Donations help support the general needs of the home and the school beyond student scholarships.
With the funds, food, school supplies, hygiene essentials, and daily necessities are purchased.

If you want your donation to go to one child in particular, add the child's code as the reference.
3. Volunteering
Volunteering is a way to contribute in person at the home by sharing your time, knowledge or skills with the community.
Opportunities, availability and conditions for volunteering are discussed directly with the team.
When your volunteering ends you receive a certificate signed by the home's director.
4. Visits
If you are on the South Coast, you can visit the home outside school hours: in the afternoon (after 15:30) or at weekends.
Message us ahead on WhatsApp to arrange your visit and follow our respectful visit code: it is a home, not an attraction; ask before taking photos and hand any gifts to the team so they are shared equally.

The home and the school are in Diani, on Kenya's South Coast, by the Indian Ocean. Diani Beach is known for its white sand, its palm trees and its calm waters, sheltered by a coral reef.
It is a calm, beautiful place: it is where the children of the home live, and where people come to volunteer or to visit them.
