About us
From one open door to a home, a school and a foundation: this is how we got here, and these are the people who make it happen.
Our story, step by step

Midzichenda Daystar Rescue Center
Founded by Gladys Kahindi
In 2013, Gladys Kahindi, known as Mama Gladys, opened her home to children with nowhere else to go. Over time that house became a children's home, with food, a safe roof and a family.
Today four women run it: Gladys, Neema, Agnes and Lucy.
“Every child is precious and deserves to grow up safe, cared for, and free to dream.”

Part of the home
The home opened its own school, which the children walk to every morning. It teaches pre-primary and primary to the children of the home and the neighbourhood, with daily meals.

Since then, school scholarships, sponsorships and volunteering go through the foundation alone. Neither the government nor any other organisation provides funding: all outside support comes this way.
–
Direct student scholarships, from 3,000 KES every three months, cover each child's enrolment and pedagogical support; the fuller scholarships add a uniform, school supplies and food. This keeps access to education stable and predictable.
How you can help
Four clear, transparent paths to walk alongside the children of the home and the team.
